Drive In and Discover the Blue Heron Resort, where you can always find a quiet place to go fishing. Just east of the town of Spanish on HWY 17. The river (Zone 10) is only open for fishing from mid-May to Sept end. The rest of the year it is closed as a Walleye spawning sanctuary.
The north channel (zone 14), is a 10 min boat ride from our resort is open from May 1st to Dec 31st!
A detailed map, showing water depths, is provided when you check in and Cal or Deb will add up-to-date details to indicate fishing hot spots.
A Variety of Fish To Catch
The three main species of fish that anglers come for are: Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, the Northern Pike, but we also have Perch, Crappie, panfish, and others. Sometimes you can even tie into the occasional Largemouth Bass. Muskie and Sturgeon are around, so don’t be surprised if you tie into one of these lunkers. If you have your own boat equipped with downriggers, you can get into some deep water to troll for Lake Trout and Salmon.

In the river, Muskie is catch and release only. The river has a variety of depths, structure, and shoreline variation.
It is a big, slow-moving waterway, except during the Spring run-off. The North Channel is only minutes away and there are many islands and bays to explore.
